Long Sweaters, Longer Legs

28 Nov

I was sooo inspired by this post over on Claire Geist’s blog, De Lune, that i had to recreate the look. The only problem was…i didn’t have a long enough sweater in my closet. In came my lovely beau (and fabulous photog!) K. He happened to have this super soft and fairly large cashmere sweater with him and so i borrowed it. Who said boys’ clothes were for boys alone??

I absolutely love how the long sweater looks both demure and sexy since it covers the top half so much, and yet bares so much leg. Thanks Claire for the inspiration!

What i wore:

Banana Republic peter pan collar shirt

Express micro khaki shorts

Chocolat Blu flats

Vintage bag via Auh2o Thriftique

H&M Necklace and Ring

Unfortunately K’s cashmere sweater doesn’t have a tag with the name on it 😦

Ginger Pinks

21 Nov

This week i teamed up with the talented Janese Castro, mastermind behind the online accessories store Ginger Pinks. If you take a look at some of my previous posts you’ll notice i don’t often accesorize. That is for two reasons, 1. i own a limited amount of cool accessories, 2. I’m not always sure what will look good with what. Enter Janese with her amazing talent for picking beautiful, cool jewels that work perfectly with an outfit. When she laid all the beautiful pieces she’d brought out on my dining table i felt like a kid in a candy store:

Jewels: Ginger Pinks

Here are some of my favorites up close and personal:

We had quite a good time trying on jewels before the shoot.

I dont think i would’ve ever paired such girlie items like the krystal necklace and bracelet with the chunkier and colorful bangles, but once i had them on they worked! I fell in love ❤

I feel blessed to have such talented and resourceful people in my life. You may be surprised at just how willing people are to help you look great. So next time you have a style conundrum, all it may take is a browse through your contacts and phone call.

Sweet Romeo knit top via Daffy’s

ApartStyle pleather skirt

Dolce Vita nude pumps via Marshall’s

Louis Vuitton nude bag c/o Janese Castro

Baggy Boyfriend Jeans

14 Nov

I know, i know. Inspiration from The Sartorialist two posts in a row…but i just can’t help myself. I follow it via Bloglovin and Scott’s posts just stir up so much inspiration in me! I love that all his photos are of regular people, walking around in cool outfits. What better place to get inspired then that?!

Anyway, this past summer i happened into H&M during one of their crazy sales, and got these boyfriend jeans for $10. I only wore them once over the summer because i wasn’t too sure about the whole baggy pants look on me. But after seeing Scott’s pictures of women so fantastically pulling off the look i had to try it! Granted, they are wearing baggy khakis, but jeans is what i have, so jeans is what i wore :).

What i wore:

Sharagano Atelier plaid blazer (similar)

H&M grey long sleeve tee (similar)

H&M boyfriend jeans (similar)

Nardelli boots – purchased during a Daffy’s store closing sale (similar

Purple, Green and Yellow. Together.

10 Nov

This week’s outfit was inspired by this post over on The Sartorialist. I find this mix of colors interesting. I would never think to pair purple, green and yellow in one outfit, but amazingly it works.

The great thing about this blog is that it allows me to step out of my comfort zone and try outfits i would normally be hesitant to wear.

What i wore:

Company 81 Cardigan – thrifted from AuH20 Thriftique (similar)

April USA short sleeve button down – purchased at a boutique in lower manhattan called Dijon (similar)

Purple linen Bozzolo USA shorts – also from Dijon (similar)

Hue black cable knit tights (same)

Cole Haan nike air booties (similar)

Armani Exchange bag (alternative)

Have you ever worn a mix of unexpected colors that worked really well?

Sandy Almost Ruined My Halloween…Almost

2 Nov

I usually try to post something new every Wednesday, unfortunately this week Hurricane Sandy came through town and threw my plans off course. I’ve lived in New York City practically all my life and have never experienced a natural disaster quite like this, it almost made me feel like it could never happen here. It is truly a surreal feeling.

Luckily, since Halloween fell on a Wednesday this year my friend Maribel held her annual Halloween party the weekend before the storm. I was a pirate. Classic!

As usual, i was scrambling at the last minute to put something together and happened to have all the pieces in my closet already!

What i wore:

Old Navy Vest (i’ve had this for years! similar one)

American Apparel Leggings

Ralph Lauren Blouse bought at El Mundo (similar)

Dolce Vita Riding Boots bought at Daffy’s for like $80 (similar)

Scarf c/o my momma

Sword from another pirate costume i own

…and here’s a link to the awesome YouTube video i used for the make up
